WU_E_SOURCE_ABSENT

WU_E_SOURCE_ABSENT means the update handler needed a source file or installation source that was not available. Unlike a network download error, the needed source can be local installation media, a component store source, or another baseline resource referenced by the update.

What to check

  • Read the earlier installer and servicing records to identify the exact missing source.
  • Check removable drives, network installation sources, mounted images, or content-store availability as appropriate for the package type.
  • Use a matching, trusted source for the Windows version and update level; do not substitute files from an arbitrary system.
