FVE_E_PIN_INVALID

FVE_E_PIN_INVALID means that BitLocker could not obtain the volume key through the configured TPM-and-PIN protector. The PIN may be wrong, or the TPM protector may no longer match the current boot environment.

How to investigate

  • Verify that the correct startup PIN is being used and that the keyboard layout at pre-boot entry is understood.
  • When normal startup authentication cannot succeed, use the approved recovery method for the displayed recovery key ID.
  • After recovery, investigate recent boot, firmware, or TPM changes before replacing protectors.
