CI_E_CORRUPT_FWIDX
CI_E_CORRUPT_FWIDX identifies an unreadable forward-index component. This is a catalog integrity problem: the index structures used by the search service cannot be consumed as expected. It is materially different from an individual document failing to filter or a SQL statement being rejected.
Collect storage and catalog evidence before rebuilding
- Record the catalog path, service events, disk or file-system errors, and any abrupt shutdown around the first occurrence.
- Check whether corruption codes appear together with master-merge or inconsistent-transaction events.
- If recovery requires a reset or rebuild, preserve the first error chronology so the rebuild does not erase evidence of a recurring storage failure.
Microsoft documents the indexing update stage as the point where collected properties and words are added to value and inverted indexes. Catalog-format documentation also describes multiple persistent index components and merge records. An unreadable forward index therefore points below the query language. Repeating the same query, changing WHERE, or modifying a filter will not fix the damaged index component. The diagnostic split is catalog storage health versus one-time interruption during a merge or transaction.
