What does NTSTATUS 0xC00A0008 (STATUS_CTX_MODEM_INF_NOT_FOUND) mean?

STATUS_CTX_MODEM_INF_NOT_FOUND

The modem information file is missing

This status belongs to legacy Terminal Services modem/callback support. The service expected modem definition data but could not find the information file used to map modem names and command strings.

It is not a TCP RDP listener failure. If the deployment no longer uses modem or callback access, the status usually indicates stale configuration rather than a problem with normal Remote Desktop over TCP.

What to inspect

  • Confirm whether any RAS, dial-up, modem callback, or legacy terminal connection path is still enabled.
  • Check the modem name and INF files installed on the server.
  • Remove obsolete modem listener configuration instead of troubleshooting modern RDP transport.
