NS_E_CONNECTION_FAILURE
NS_E_CONNECTION_FAILURE: the failing boundary
NS_E_CONNECTION_FAILURE (0xC00D0029) means The network connection has failed. The important boundary is connection failure; do not replace this result with a broader “Windows Media failed” diagnosis.
What this result proves
This code proves that an established or attempted network connection failed. It does not, by itself, prove a codec, permissions, network, device, or media problem outside that boundary. Preserve the first lower-level result when one exists, because later Player or Encoder errors can hide the original cause.
Evidence and focused verification
Capture peer address, protocol, connect/handshake stage, first socket error, and whether any bytes were transferred; reproduce against the same endpoint. Keep the media object, endpoint, profile, or device identity fixed while changing only that rejected precondition. A successful retest should pass this exact boundary; a different HRESULT from a later stage is new evidence, not recurrence of NS_E_CONNECTION_FAILURE.
