VDS_S_UNABLE_TO_GET_GPT_ATTRIBUTES
This warning concerns GPT attribute retrieval during VDS volume-flag processing. The published message names hidden, read-only, and no-drive-letter attributes. On GPT basic disks these VDS flags are scoped to individual volumes or partitions, unlike some MBR basic-disk cases where related settings apply at disk scope. Failure to read the GPT-backed attributes means VDS cannot report that part of the flag state with confidence.
Why this state matters
Do not replace unknown attributes with “all clear.” That can cause a management client to expose a hidden volume, attempt writes to a read-only volume, or change automatic drive-letter behavior. Preserve the warning, requery the disk/volume properties after the underlying transition, and correlate any provider or partition-layout errors.
Diagnostic focus
- Record the disk partition style and confirm the affected object is on GPT storage.
- Treat hidden, read-only, and no-default-drive-letter values as unknown when attribute retrieval failed.
- Check recent partition/layout changes and provider events before rewriting volume flags.
- Requery VDS properties after a controlled refresh rather than using default flag values.
