STATUS_SPACES_PAUSE

A paused operation is neither success nor a completed repair

This is a state notification from the Storage Spaces provider. The work stopped making progress, but the status alone does not say that the virtual disk is corrupt or that the operation is safe to restart. Treat it as an instruction to inspect the operation that owns the state, especially if the operation was a repair, rebalance, evacuation, or layout change.

How to investigate safely

Use Get-StorageJob to identify the job, its progress, and whether it is still present.
Inspect pool, virtual-disk, and physical-disk operational states before changing the layout or removing a disk.
Do not run several repair, reset, or removal operations concurrently merely to clear a paused state; concurrent topology changes can obscure the original reason for the pause.
