STATUS_DEVICE_SUPPORT_IN_PROGRESS

Capability discovery has not finished yet

STATUS_DEVICE_SUPPORT_IN_PROGRESS is a transitional status from command-support detection. It should be read as a discovery-state result: code that depends on a command or feature has arrived before the device stack has finished determining whether the target supports it.

Windows exposes storage property queries for descriptors and capabilities, and the storage stack separates class-specific request construction from port or controller transport. Those layers may need information discovered from the device before a higher-level command can be issued safely. The status is therefore not equivalent to “unsupported command”; the final support decision has not been made yet.

The right fix is usually ordering, not a permanent fallback. Locate the capability probe, determine how its completion is published, and make dependent requests wait for that state. Repeating parallel probes or caching the transitional result as “not supported” can turn a temporary state into a persistent application bug.
