STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_CYCLE_REQUIRED
A full device power cycle is required
A function-level reset or D-state transition may leave some hardware blocks powered and preserve the faulty state. This status tells the caller that recovery requires the device to lose its relevant power source and then be re-enumerated or reinitialized. A process restart or closing the handle does not satisfy that requirement.
For an internal device, the necessary cycle might require a system shutdown rather than a warm reboot, depending on platform power rails. For a removable device, safe removal and reconnection can be enough. Preserve logs before cycling because volatile firmware state and bus-error registers may disappear.
What to inspect
- Identify whether the device supports function, platform-level or bus reset interfaces.
- Determine which D-state or physical action actually removes power from the failing component.
- Capture firmware, bus and driver diagnostics before performing the requested cycle.
