VDS_E_DISK_LAYOUT_PARTITIONS_TOO_SMALL
This status is about partition-layout geometry before file-system formatting. VDS represents each partition with a byte offset and byte size and validates the complete layout. A partition can therefore fail minimum-size rules even when the disk has abundant free space elsewhere.
Why this state matters
Examine the exact partition type and size rather than treating the message as a volume-capacity error. Small metadata, reserved, OEM, or boot-related partitions have different roles from data partitions, and a layout produced for another platform or tool may not satisfy VDS provider rules. Preserve the full ordered partition map so gaps, overlaps, and tiny entries can be reviewed together.
Diagnostic focus
- Enumerate all partitions and record style, type, offset, and byte size.
- Identify the specific undersized entry before resizing or deleting anything.
- Check whether the layout was imported from an image or created by non-VDS tooling.
- Do not confuse partition minimum size with the minimum size of a file-system volume.
