CERT_E_REVOCATION_FAILURE
CERT_E_REVOCATION_FAILURE means that the selected chain policy could not complete revocation validation for one or more certificates. It does not mean that the certificate was confirmed revoked; it means revocation status could not be established under that policy.
Find the failing revocation step
- Record the failing chain element, revocation URL or responder, and the specific lower-level status when the API provides it.
- Check access to CRL distribution points or OCSP responders from the machine performing validation, including proxy and firewall rules.
- Keep revocation requirements enabled for sensitive production paths unless a documented policy explicitly defines an exception.
Differentiate this from a confirmed revoked result such as CRYPT_E_REVOKED or CERT_E_REVOKED.
