WU_E_INVENTORY_GET_INVENTORY_TYPE_FAILED
WU_E_INVENTORY_GET_INVENTORY_TYPE_FAILED means the update client asked its update service for a particular inventory definition and did not receive a usable result. This can be a service-side catalog problem, a client/service compatibility issue, or an interrupted request.
What to check
- Capture the service ID and the requested inventory type from
WindowsUpdate.log. - Compare an affected device with a healthy device that uses the same update service and policy.
- In a managed environment, inspect service synchronization and server logs before resetting client-side state.
