STATUS_DATA_OVERRUN

The device transferred more data than the request could accept

A data overrun occurs when the device, controller, or protocol supplies more bytes than the allocated transfer or expected record length. On sequential devices it can reflect variable-block sizing; on serial or storage paths it can indicate incorrect buffer length or corrupted command metadata.

Capture both requested and reported transfer sizes. Truncating silently can desynchronize records or discard trailing data. Verify block mode, sector size, scatter-gather mapping, and driver assumptions before increasing a buffer, because the larger transfer might itself be erroneous.
