STATUS_DATA_LATE_ERROR
Data arrived too late for the device timing window
This status represents a timing failure in which required data was not available when the controller needed it. It is historically associated with devices that must sustain a fixed transfer rate, such as floppy, tape, or other streaming hardware.
Investigate controller load, DMA or interrupt latency, bus resets, media speed, and driver buffering. A retry that succeeds can still reveal a marginal system under load. Preserve timing and queue-depth information rather than treating the event as generic bad media.
What to inspect
- Capture transfer rate, queue depth, interrupt or DMA timing, and system load.
- Check for resets, throttling, controller errors, and competing long-latency activity.
- Repeat diagnostics under controlled load to distinguish media from host timing failures.
