STATUS_SECTION_NOT_EXTENDED
The existing section cannot be extended under its current backing and state
Extending a section can require increasing its backing file, reserving a larger maximum size, and preserving consistency with existing views. This status reports that the requested extension did not take effect. Common constraints include read-only backing handles, insufficient storage, image-section semantics, or a maximum size fixed at creation.
Growing the file separately does not automatically enlarge an already-created section object. Existing views remain bounded by the section maximum and must often be unmapped and recreated after the file is resized through a supported path.
What to inspect
- Record the original section maximum, requested new size, backing-file size, access rights, and file-system result.
- Determine whether active views, image mapping attributes, or remote/file-system limitations prohibit extension.
- Check disk quota and allocation failures separately from virtual-address reservation failures.
- When recreation is required, coordinate all users so no process continues with a stale mapping handle.
