STATUS_COMPRESSED_FILE_NOT_SUPPORTED
This file-system operation does not support compressed data
Per-stream compression changes allocation and cluster handling. Operations that require raw extents, offloaded transfer, direct mapping, or special metadata updates may reject a compressed stream even though ordinary reads and writes work.
The safe choices are an operation-specific fallback or an explicit decompress–operate–recompress workflow with enough free space and failure recovery. Clearing compression is not an invisible metadata toggle for existing data.
What to inspect
- Query the current compression state before issuing the specialized operation.
- Estimate temporary space and transactional risk before decompressing.
- Prefer a normal copy or I/O path that transparently handles compression.
