STATUS_NOT_A_TIERED_VOLUME
A tier-specific operation targeted a volume without storage tiers
Storage tier optimization applies only when the backing virtual disk contains more than one storage tier. A simple, mirror, or parity volume can be healthy and still return this status if the requested command assumes tier metadata that does not exist.
Inspect the Storage Spaces virtual disk rather than relying on drive media labels. Cache devices and storage tiers are different concepts. If the workload requires explicit hot and cold placement, the volume must be designed and provisioned as tiered storage.
What to inspect
- Query the virtual disk and storage-tier associations.
- Check whether the command selected TierOptimize or another tier-only action.
- Do not recreate a healthy volume unless tiering is an actual design requirement.
