STATUS_NOT_A_CLOUD_SYNC_ROOT
The path is outside a registered cloud sync root
Cloud Files operations that manage placeholders and provider communication are scoped to a registered sync-root tree. This status means the path used by the caller is not the root of such a registration. A directory with a cloud-provider name or copied placeholder files is not automatically a sync root.
Registration binds a provider identity, policies, path, and sync-root ID to the operating system. The failure can occur after the directory was moved, the provider was unregistered, the call used a parent or sibling path, or registration belongs to another user context. Re-registering an arbitrary nonempty directory can create conflicts and should follow provider rules.
What to inspect
- Resolve the final normalized path and query registered sync roots for the current user.
- Compare the requested path with the registered root path and sync-root ID, including volume and reparse traversal.
- Check provider install, sign-out, reset, and unregister events.
- Use the provider workflow to register or repair the root before issuing placeholder operations.
