MF_E_SEQUENCER_UNKNOWN_SEGMENT_ID

MF_E_SEQUENCER_UNKNOWN_SEGMENT_ID means the sequencer cannot map the supplied MFSequencerElementId to a current segment. Segment IDs are returned by AppendTopology and are later used to update, delete, or seek relative to sequence elements.

Cache IDs returned by the sequencer

The Microsoft sample keeps both segment IDs and topology IDs because they serve different purposes. Mixing the two identifiers can produce a lookup failure even when the corresponding media item is visibly present in the application's playlist.
