MF_E_LICENSE_INCORRECT_RIGHTS
MF_E_LICENSE_INCORRECT_RIGHTS is a rights mismatch, not simply a missing-license condition. Protected playback can reach the content-enabling path with license information present while the requested use of the content is not permitted by those rights.
Record the action that triggered rights evaluation
- Distinguish playback from copy or transcode requests; output trust authorities represent actions separately.
- Preserve the first license/rights HRESULT returned by the content enabler or protected session.
- Check whether the same asset succeeds for a different operation, which can expose an action-specific rights difference.
This code differs from MF_E_LICENSE_REQUIRED, where a usable license must be acquired, and from MF_E_LICENSE_OUTOFDATE, where license validity has expired. Retrying topology construction does not change granted rights. The application should follow its supported rights-acquisition or provider workflow and report the requested action accurately rather than masking the result as a codec or file-open error.
