MF_E_GRL_INVALID_FORMAT
MF_E_GRL_INVALID_FORMAT means Protected Media Path cannot use the Global Revocation List as correctly formed trust data. The GRL is digitally signed revocation information; its integrity matters because the protected environment relies on it to reject compromised components.
Do not treat the GRL as an ordinary cache file
- Preserve the first GRL parsing or signature-related HRESULT and the installed GRL version, if readable.
- Check system servicing and protected-media renewal state rather than editing, truncating, or manually synthesizing the list.
- Distinguish malformed data from
MF_E_GRL_UNRECOGNIZED_FORMAT, where the list uses a newer format than the current reader understands.
A decoder reinstall is unrelated unless it also changes protected-media servicing state. The relevant component is the revocation-data pipeline. Restore or update the GRL through the supported Windows servicing/renewal mechanism and recreate the protected session so the list is loaded and validated again.
