MF_E_GRL_UNRECOGNIZED_FORMAT
MF_E_GRL_UNRECOGNIZED_FORMAT is a reader-version mismatch. The revocation list is present, but the component attempting to read it does not recognize that GRL format.
Compare the trust-data and protected-media servicing levels
- Record the Windows build, Media Foundation component versions, and the GRL version associated with the failure.
- Check for partial servicing in which revocation data was updated but protected-media components were not updated consistently.
- Recreate the PMP session only after the system servicing state is corrected; retrying the same reader against the same GRL should reproduce the mismatch.
This is different from MF_E_GRL_INVALID_FORMAT. “Unrecognized” specifically points to format support, while “invalid” points to malformed or overwritten data. It is also different from MF_E_GRL_VERSION_TOO_LOW, where the reader can identify the list version but policy demands a newer one. Preserve that distinction when grouping telemetry.
