STATUS_OBJECT_NO_LONGER_EXISTS
The name existed only in a transaction state that has been rolled back
STATUS_OBJECT_NO_LONGER_EXISTS is a Transactional NTFS status. It normally means the handle or name refers to a file-system object that was visible in one transacted view, but that object was removed when the transaction rolled back to an earlier savepoint.
For diagnosis, do not treat this as the same condition as an ordinary deleted file outside TxF. The important part is the transaction timeline: which handle created the object, which savepoint was set, and which rollback invalidated the object identity.
What to check
- Whether the object was created, renamed, or linked after the savepoint that was later restored.
- Open transacted handles that still point to the rolled-back file, stream, or link.
- Calls that cache a path or file ID across
FSCTL_TXFS_SAVEPOINT_INFORMATIONrollback. - Whether retry logic reopens the object in the current transaction view instead of reusing the stale handle.
Useful distinction
This status is about a transaction savepoint changing the visible object graph. If the handle merely outlived the whole transaction, STATUS_HANDLE_NO_LONGER_VALID or STATUS_EXPIRED_HANDLE is the closer match.
