Handle lifetime is the failing boundary
A VidPN is represented to the display miniport by a handle and interfaces supplied by the VidPN manager. This status concerns that object identity or lifetime, not whether a proposed mode is supported. A driver can receive it after using a stale, foreign, released, or otherwise invalid VidPN handle.
Do not substitute a newly created topology merely to suppress the error. First verify which callback supplied the handle, whether the object is used only during the callback that owns it, and whether the driver acquired the correct VidPN interface before asking for topology or mode-set objects.
Check the ownership chain
- Log the callback, adapter context, VidPN handle, and every acquired sub-object handle.
- Verify that no cached handle is used after the VidPN manager has changed or released the underlying object.
