Internal Platform Crypto Provider failure
STATUS_PCP_INTERNAL_ERROR indicates that validation reached the Platform Crypto Provider but the provider failed internally while handling the TPM-backed operation. It is less actionable than a parameter, handle, buffer, or capability status, so surrounding context is important.
For diagnostics, collect provider name, operation, algorithm, key name, TPM presence/provisioning state, and any adjacent TBS or TPM event log entries. Repeating the same request without changing state often reproduces the failure because it is not a simple caller-side buffer-size condition.
Diagnostic focus
- Check whether Windows detects and owns/provisions the TPM before debugging the key object itself.
- Record the NCrypt call, provider name, key name, flags, and status returned by any preceding property query.
- Look in Windows TPM, CNG, and application logs for a more specific earlier failure.
