STATUS_RDBSS_POST_OPERATION
The operation cannot continue at the current IRQL
Network redirector processing can begin in a context where blocking, pageable code, or some resource acquisition is not permitted. This status asks RDBSS to queue the request to a worker thread so processing can resume at PASSIVE_LEVEL with a safe execution context.
The transition must preserve the RX_CONTEXT, IRP, ownership information, and any resources that are intentionally carried across the post. Completing or freeing the request before the worker executes creates use-after-free and double-completion defects.
What to inspect
- Capture the current IRQL and the operation that required PASSIVE_LEVEL.
- Verify the request is marked pending and queued exactly once.
- Audit ownership of FCB resources, references, and cancellation state across the worker transition.
- Use RDBSS worker-dispatch mechanisms rather than invoking pageable mini-redirector code at elevated IRQL.
