Occupation counts are used by vector quantization, codebook, histogram-like and table-building paths to describe how many entries, samples or symbols occupy a bucket or structure.
A negative count usually means a caller-side accounting bug, an overflowed subtraction, or a corrupted table rather than a problem in the final numeric output.
Diagnostic focus
- Trace where the occupation count is accumulated or derived.
- Check for underflow when removing entries from a bucket or codebook cell.
- Validate serialized codebook or histogram tables before passing them into IPP.
