ERROR_MEDIUM_NOT_ACCESSIBLE ERROR_UNABLE_TO_INVENTORY_DRIVE

ERROR_UNABLE_TO_LOAD_MEDIUM

The cartridge did not load successfully into the drive

A load operation spans changer movement and drive acceptance. Failure may occur after the medium has been picked from its slot but before the drive recognizes it, so it differs from an inaccessible medium that the transport cannot reach at all. Causes include a mechanical load failure, incompatible cartridge, occupied drive, damaged media shell or stale location information.

Inspect both the library request and the drive hardware state. Inventory the library after resolving any jam so RSM does not retain an incorrect slot location. If the failure follows one cartridge across compatible drives, examine the media; if it follows one drive across cartridges, service the drive or load mechanism.

What to inspect

  • Compare behavior across another compatible drive or cartridge.
  • Check whether the destination drive was already occupied.
  • Reconcile slot and drive contents with inventory after recovery.
