ERROR_UNABLE_TO_INVENTORY_SLOT
A library slot could not be inventoried reliably
Storage slots are separate RSM objects that normally identify whether a medium is present and where it belongs. A failed slot inventory means RSM cannot safely update that location, even if other slots and drives were read successfully. The problem can reflect changer sensing, an obstructed slot, a partially inserted cartridge or a mismatch between bar-code and physical inventory.
Use the library hardware diagnostics to identify the specific slot and inspect its physical state. Do not move the database record to another slot without a corresponding robotic operation. Once the obstruction or sensor issue is corrected, perform a targeted identification or full inventory to rebuild the association.
What to inspect
- Record the storage-slot GUID and physical slot number.
- Inspect for partial insertion, obstruction or sensor failure.
- Use IdentifyNtmsSlot or library inventory after correction.
