VDS_E_DISK_PNP_REG_CORRUPT

This status concerns the provider's PnP registration view, not disk-sector or file-system corruption. VDS providers participate in object discovery and send typed notifications to the service. A corrupt registered-disk list means the provider can no longer trust the internal association between Plug and Play disk arrivals/removals and the VDS disk objects it exposes.

Why this state matters

A storage rescan and a VDS cache refresh are different operations. Reenumerate issues a bus rescan request to discover newly added or removed disks, while Refresh synchronizes VDS cached object/layout information with the view known to the disk driver. Neither API should be used as a substitute for diagnosing a provider that repeatedly reconstructs a corrupt registration list.

Record the VDS provider identity and determine whether the error belongs to the Microsoft software provider or a vendor provider.
Correlate disk arrival/removal activity and provider event logs around the first occurrence.
