Every active source needs an output path
A VidPN topology associates logical video present sources with video present targets. This status reports a cardinality constraint in the proposed configuration: there are fewer targets than sources that require paths. It is not fixed by assigning two sources to the same target unless the driver and topology model support a valid alternative arrangement.
Clone behavior runs in the other direction: one source can feed multiple targets. The topology therefore has to be evaluated as actual source-to-target paths, not by counting desktop icons or physical monitors alone.
Check the graph before mode selection
- List every active source and every assigned target path.
- Identify sources left without a target after detach, dock/undock, virtual-display removal, or topology rebuild.
- Confirm that any proposed clone arrangement reuses one source for several targets rather than combining independent sources into one endpoint.
